Phnom Penh: After testing to select athletes by the Cambodia Canoe and Rowing Federation at Tonle Vaiko, Svay Rieng City, Svay Rieng Province for 2 days, the selected national team with a total of 26 athletes, gathered for training under the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports at the training camp in Svay Rieng City, Svay Rieng Province.
According to Mr. Kong Sopheap, assistant coach of the national team, confirmed that the gathering of national athletes who are training in the camp in Svay Rieng Province, including 4 coaches, 20 male athletes and 6 female athletes.
The assistant coach emphasized that, the gathering under the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, for the Cambodia Canoe and Rowing Federation is to prepare for the mission of competing for medals in two major events in 2025. The first event is the World Games (WORLD GAME 2025), a major competition held every four years in the People's Republic of China from August 6 to 11, 2025, where preparations for the traditional international dragon boat race, a mixed men's and women's team of 12 persons and 8 persons, with six events including 200 meters, 500 meters and 2000 meters. The second event is the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in December 2025, with the federation is preparing for categories such as canoe, kayak, rowing and traditional international boats.
Mr. Kong Sopheap further stated that, for the training in 2025, the federation urges to train harder, so that the athletes can develop their ability to compete for medals for Cambodia in the above two events because in the SEA Games 2023, we competed and won medals, so in 2025 we must keep our medals. While the World Dragon Boat Championship qualifiers had 27 countries in 2024 in the Philippines, we were among the 12 countries that qualified for the WORLD GAME 2025. Therefore, in the competition, we will also strive to compete for medals for Cambodia.
Please note that, gathering the national team, under the financial support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Cambodia Canoe and Rowing Federation has started training since April 8, while the training has 3 times a day from Monday to Saturday.
