H.E. Ly Kosal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense and President of the Badminton Federation of Cambodia, accompanied by Brigadier General Keo Ros, Secretary General of the Federation, attended the Annual General Meeting of the Badminton Federation BA and BWF in Xiemen City, People’s Republic of China, from April 24-27, 2025, with 202 members from different countries.
H.E. Ly Kol said that, the General Meeting program of the Badminton Asia Federation: has been followed as in previous years, there are various committees have reported their annual progress, as well as presented the income and expenditure, financial status of the institution and support for its members. All activity reports were approved by the General Meeting. April 25 was a forum to meet with members, with outstanding speakers sharing their experiences. This forum was an opportunity to meet and build friendship between 202 members from different countries.
The main presentations on the 26th were on Member Capacity, Sustainability, Inclusive Badminton and Innovation. On the 27th of April, the General Meeting Program of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) after the various committees made their annual progress reports, including the financial status of the BWF and support for its members. All actions were approved by the General Meeting in full.
The BWF President, who had expired, did not stand for re-election for personal reasons and since there were no other candidates, the General Meeting elected Ms. Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul from Thailand as President for a further four-year term until 2029. Ms. Khunying’s appointment as President has benefited to Cambodia due to the good relations and cooperation in the past, and she is open to providing assistance to smaller countries to promote the development of badminton sector.
The next annual general meeting was decided by the general meeting to be held in April or May 2026 in Europe, in Denmark. At the same time, His Excellency the President of the Badminton Federation of Cambodia highlighted that with good cooperation with the BA and BWF, Cambodia has been selected to host the BA SEA Regional U15 U17 & U23 Championship in July, with 5 participating countries including Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Timor Leste and Brunei.
Cambodia has already hosted the event once in 2023, when only the U15 and U17 categories. This is the second time that the event will be held on Cambodian land, as the relevant countries, technical officials and BA officials have all supported the event in Cambodia due to its well-known reputation of friendship, respect and hospitality in past competitions, including the 2023 SEA Games and the same tournament that was held in 2023, leading all stakeholders to want to participate when Cambodia hosts the event.
