How to earn a wildcard into the Olympic Games

Athletes nominated for the Olympic Games must first qualify for their respective continents. Countries that do not qualify for the Olympics can still participate through the Olympic Movement's wildcard system.

Regarding this privilege, H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), stated that previously, the selection was dependent on the International Federation. For example, in swimming, the International Swimming Federation analyzes technical qualifications and determines which competitors will compete. The candidate's name is subsequently given to the host Olympic Organizing Committee.

There is a strong selection for the 2024 Olympics, especially in terms of physical and technical ability. The Commission aims for equal competition between qualifiers and wild card winners to ensure high quality. The appearance is related to the athletes' beauty.

The commission stresses marketing appeal.

It should be noted that Cambodia has 3 athletes in 2 sports to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris, France. Cambodia's top runner Chhun Bunthorn and two swimmers including Antoine le Lapparent and Sakbun Apsara Katarina are eligible to attend the event.

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France will run from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The three Cambodian athletes will leave Phnom Penh on Sunday, July 21.

On the morning of July 17, before competing in the 33rd Summer Olympics in Paris, France, the Cambodian sports delegation paid a courtesy call to H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, Senior Minister, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, and High Representative of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

H.E. Thong Khon also gave each athlete their $500 Samdech Thipadei budget at that same moment.
