According to AS, the World Football Federation (FIFA) may expand the number of players registered in national teams for the 2026 World Cup.
According to past practice, each team was allowed to register 26 players on the final list for the World Cup. However, FIFA wants to increase the number of registered players to 30 for the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA claims that next summer's competition will be the largest ever, with 48 countries participating. This means that the increased number of registered players will improve the quality of the competition, reduce injuries and give coaches more options.
The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11, 2026, to July 19, 2026. The expansion of the World Cup to 48 teams means that, there will be more competitions, with a total of 104 competitions, compared to 64 competitions in Qatar in 2022.
The increase in the number of matches from 64 to 104 will require adjustments in force management, especially when the matches are played in different locations under extreme weather conditions such as the heat and humidity of North America.
