The Head of Cambodia Sports Delegation expected athletes may win medals for the nation, after a year of hard training

Phnom Penh: H.E. Dr. Senior Minister Thong Khon, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and the Head of the Cambodia Sports Delegation, has placed his trust in Cambodian youth athletes on their journey to compete for medals for the nation after they have been paid attention and hardworking to train for a past year in preparation for the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain from October 22-31, 2025.

This optimism was expressed during a meeting and recommendation ceremony, as well as a farewell and encouragement for the Cambodia sports delegation before leaving for the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, under the high chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and a highest representative of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, in the morning of October 13, 2025.

Taking this opportunity, on behalf of the NOCC, H.E. Dr. Senior Minister thanked to H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, the highest representative of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei, Prime Minister, for taking the time out of his busy schedule to lead the sectors of Education, youth and sports and giving the honor to Cambodia sports delegation, pay courtesy, bid farewell and receive high recommendations before departing to participate in the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

His Excellency said that, the competition of the Asian Youth Games in Manama at the end of October, hosted by Bahrain, have defined 23 sports and 45 Asian National Olympic Committees are participating, with Cambodia is preparing to participate in 14 sports with 71 disciplines, including: athletics, swimming, badminton, basketball, jiu-jitsu, judo, Kun Khmer, mixed martial arts, taekwondo-WT, table tennis, weightlifting, table football, pencaksilat and wrestling, with 52 male and female athletes, 21 coaches, 40 sports officials and leaders, and 44 artistic groups, totaling 157 Cambodia sports delegates.

H.E. Dr. Thong Khon continued that, “Under the care and concentration of gathering of the national yuoth team for a year-long training camp, the National Sports Training Center of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, we expect that the athletes will give confidence in their sports performance and will definitely lead to winning medals for the country. On behalf of the Head of Delegation, Head of Mission and Coordination Team, I would like to commit to working hard with a proactive spirit to ensure the health, safety, warmth and confidence of the athletes, both on their way out, during the competition and until their return.”

His Excellency Doctor added, “For the flag-receiving ceremony for the 4th Asian Youth Games, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia has collaborated with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts to organize the flag-receiving ceremony under the coordination of the host country, Bahrain, to make the program runs smoothly and with national pride in attracting the attention of all Asian sports delegates and athletes to welcome visitors to Cambodia, the Kingdom of Wonder, in 2029.”

In the above paid courtesy, out of the mentioned meeting and encouragement, as well as the highest recommendations of H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, His Excellency also praised and highly appreciated the active participation of the NOCC leaders under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Senior Minister Thong Khon and the collaboration of all national sports federations, which encourage the national sports sector to develop and participate in competitions on the international stage, especially the preparations for hosting the 4th Asian Youth Games in 2029, which is another major event after the resounding success of the 2023 SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games.
