On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) received a letter of appreciation from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for the valuable cooperation and strong support of the Head of the Cambodia Olympic Movement, which led to the smooth and successful conclusion of the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain from October 22-31, 2025.

In the competition of the recent 2025 Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, Cambodia sent athletes to compete in 14 sports and won a total of 4 medals, including 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. This is the first time that Cambodia has competed for a medal at the Asian Youth Games after participating three times, having not won any medals in the first two times.

Relating to the postponement of Cambodia’s hosting of the Asian Youth Games from 2029 to 2031, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) confirmed that Uzbekistan has requested to host the Asian Youth Games again in 2029 to have time for preparations and infrastructure to be ready after giving up the rights to host the 2025 Games and were continued by Bahrain.

The OCA thanked the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, especially the Royal Government of Cambodia, for agreeing to the postponement. Meanwhile, the Asian Youth Games will now be held every two years.
In a letter signed by Husain Al Musallam, Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, it was stated that “the solidarity, sportsmanship and friendship shown by His Excellency’s delegation (H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia) clearly reflects the values of the Asian sports community. The OCA would like to express its deepest gratitude for His Excellency’s close cooperation and commitment during the preparation and Games phases. We have all created valuable memories for the youth of Asia and strengthened the alliance that binds our countries together through sports.”

The Olympic Council of Asia added, “We would like to thank you again for your partnership and important contribution to the success of the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain. We look forward to further good cooperation in future Asian Games.”

In fact, the recent participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games has increased sports diplomacy as well as promoted the international Olympic movement, especially the Asian Olympic Movement, which has given Cambodia a good name and the right to participate in all sports events, and has been recognized and highly appreciated by the Cambodia sports team.
